Lydia Hull

Violin & Viola

Lydia began her violin journey at the age of eight, after her mother told her she needed to play the instrument. After seventeen years of training and performing, Lydia can’t help but look back and see that it was the best decision her mother made for her.

She studied privately with Mr. Douglass Bevan, training strictly classical repertoire. As a daughter of a music teacher, and the youngest child of four other musicians, she was thrust into many performing opportunities ranging from weddings, to christmas events, to highschool musicals, to playing on church worship teams. After she graduated from high school, she landed her first professional musical theater job at the Palace Theater in New Hampshire. From that job, the momentum didn’t stop for Lydia's musical theater career.

She went on to perform over 50 shows (and counting) in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont, working alongside Broadway musicians and conductors such as Kieth Levenson. That's when she picked up viola and started performing as a violin/viola doubler. She also had the opportunity to record the Broadway concept album Kalevala The Musical on violin.

After strictly performing in professional theater's, Lydia started working with touring bands. She's toured with a musical improv group called The Greatest Pirate Story Ever Told and their junction band called The Crimson Pirates, Remember Jones in their Queen and Kanye West cover shows, Boom Boom Shake which is a traditional middle eastern style bellydance show, and a Celtic band for Renaissance Festivals across the States.

Aside from touring, Lydia also plays locally in Westmoreland County for weddings, country clubs, wineries, and coffee shops. Playing Irish and Scottish tunes, Jazz and Swing, and classical favorites in duos and trios.

Lydia just recently began a new chapter in her career, and arguably the hardest....teaching. She loves the challenges it provides, and is ecstatic to share what she's learned through her teacher and the skills she's picked up on the road. Lydia loves the variation of music jobs she's acquired through her career.

Lydia joined Radiant Strings during the 2023 wedding season and played both Violin and Viola. She was connected to Radiant Strings through another musician and her incredible sense of humor, warm personality, and talent has blended with the other members of Radiant Strings perfectly.
